This video is an on-set interview with the Smashing Pumpkins during the making of the “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” music video.
The music video for the song, directed by Samuel Bayer, is a performance video with heavy conceptual elements. The visual look of the video was inspired by the work of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado on diamond mining. The band used the video to debut their new glam rock look. The band advertised on the radio that they were accepting extras for the video and over 2000 fans showed up to the set. In the end, 1000 extras were allowed to get muddy in the 100-ft deep man-made hole.
